What parenting habits annoy you?

How did you come about your parenting style?
Sunday, October 19th, 2008Do you think the majority of parents take parenting seriously?
Sunday, September 21st, 2008I’m not talking about you personally. I’m talking about parents in general as a whole. Do you think parents (even when their children are at a young age) practice foresight? Do you think parents really take that responsibility to heart–almost like a job–and do their best?
Now, I’m talking about you. How do you feel about parenting books in general? What is your main concern as a parent? Do you think the parents who do not take parenting seriously will some day have an effect on your own children?
I’m just curious. I’ve been noticing more and more my own awareness of parenting. I’ve been really nervous (as I’m sure many parents are) about what I do now and the effects it will have on my children later. By all means, I’m confident about my parenting abilities and I’m always trying to improve but it’s so hard to figure out fact from fiction when there are so many “experts” out there.
Do you choose to follow an “expert’s” advice? If so, which one and why?
How many parents read parenting books before/during pregnancy?
Friday, August 15th, 2008I have a cousin who has about 10 parenting books, all about a million pages long, and she read all of them! It never occurred to me to read parenting books. What about you? Did you read parenting books or go 100% by maternal instinct, or somewhere in the middle?
My cousin got accidentally pregnant so I think she felt like she had no idea how to be a parent so read these books.
Parents: What do you take great pride in when parenting?
Monday, July 14th, 2008For me there are many many things…but one is that my son is 3 and has no idea what Kool Aid is! I was raised on the stuff…as were a lot of the kids I knew….but my kdis get juice, milk, and a lot of water. When I was a kid I NEVER drank water….it was yucky. Now it is all I drink. I like to give it to my son as well. He likes it.
That is just one….what are yours?

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008What parenting moves have backfired on you?
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008For instance, when I was 15 I wanted to wear thongs so my panty line wouldn’t show. Everyone at school would make fun of you if it showed. My parents wouldn’t let me have thongs so I started not wearing any underwear to school. One day my skirt flew up and I had no underwear on and all the boys saw and the school called my mom about it. She took me to buy thongs that day. Now I am a mom and am curious about other parenting moves that could backfire.
