How would you rate your parenting skills?

Emily M. asked:

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest) how would you rate your parenting skills? Do you parent your children the way you were parented?

I parent my children the same because I learned a lot and am very polite and courteous. For me,I would say 8 or so. It’s harder with 3 teens, 1 1/2 year old, and one on the way, and a dog. But my multitasking is a 10. Jennifer

I’ll give myself a 8 because we just don’t have the time to be a 10. Yes I use about 90% of the skills that my parents used.

I’d give myself an 8. I use a lot of the parenting skills from my past (teaching manners, chores, etc.), but I’m more easy-going than my mother.

About a 9, there’s a little room for improvement (wish I had more patience) but really with ten children in my house (five mine) I think I’m doing really well just staying sane.

And yes, I parent much like my mother raised us, just a little more hands on. She worked a lot being a single mother after my father and her split up, but my hubby and I are still together so I can afford to be with my children all the time.

I vowed I would be different than my mom, but I was about the same, with the same hangups. My children are successfully raised and on their own, so I must have done OK. My strict husband was a good balance to my leniency, so between us we got the job done. With the two of us working together, we were a 9.

I rate myself a 7 I can improve my parenting skills and I am on a daily basis. I parent my kids different than how my parents raised me. I used to be ******* for every single thing. I talk and use time out with mine braking the chain.

Right now, I rate my parenting skills at about 6 or7. I have several things to work on. I have incorporated some things from my upbringing, but have also purposely chose to not do others.

There are days when I would rate myself a 1 and go to bed miserable and upset with myself. I’ve spent the day being unhappy, unpleasant and unlikable. Then there are days when I hit it out of the park and I am a 10!!! I have made each of them feel as though they are my most favorite, I have been creative, loving and resourceful. I strive for these days, of course.

Not bragging, a 9.5 nope I do NOT parent the way my parents did, I have never resorted to physical violence against my child nor have I used emotional/verbal/mental abuse. I learned from people who actually HAD parenting skills.

Close to the way we were parented, I’d say I’d give myself an 9 because their is ALWAYS room for improvement.

I’ll give myself an 8. I’m not a perfect parent by all means. There is always room for improvement.

My husband and I try to instill our beliefs into our children, and we are raising them in similar ways as our own parents raised us, however, not completely. What worked for them may not be working for us, so there are some changes here and there.
